Risk Adjusted Reimbursement (MRA)
Education and Training
Targeted educational programs enable us to tailor the message to each constituent in the practice. For clinicians, we conduct educational seminars on risk-adjusted reimbursement, which includes the basic reimbursement mechanism and addresses proper medical charting and documentation with specific attention to compliance with national standards and best practices. By means of education focused on the clinical aspects of care, we can dispel myths and begin the process of changing physician behavior to plant the seeds for MRA success within the practice. Education drives the work we do and forms the basis for future provider coaching by our experienced staff.
Depending on the operations of the practice, medical assistants can be crucial components of MRA success. Our education for this constituency focuses on understanding the basic reimbursement mechanism and specific actions that will support the documentation behavior we are trying to cultivate in the physician.
Billing staff, coders and encounter processors receive training on ICD-10-CM coding specific to risk-adjusted reimbursement as well as the reimbursement process for at-risk providers. This education is aimed at both in-house billing staff and billers who are external to the practice.
Our experience has shown that offices where all staff members have a basic understanding of risk adjusted reimbursement are most successful under this payment methodology. For this reason, we also provide education for the general staff to facilitate coverage in the office and a consistent MRA message. In addition to impacting the office’s MRA success, education for all staff members assists in creating career paths within the practice.
